Bring the past alive... life-size cobblestone street with Victorian shops
Bygones is a tourist attraction, situated in Fore Street, St Marychurch, Torquay. It was founded by a local couple, who wanted to create an exhibition of
antiques and railwayana. They bought the old cinema in St Marychurch when their collection grew to include a 27-ton railway engine from Falmouth Docks.
One of the main attractions at Bygones is the life-size cobblestone Victorian street complete with fully equipped Victorian shops. The is a apothecary, a
general store and a toy shop. Toys in the Victorian era were only for rich children. The poor children had to make do with piece of rope to use for skipping,
or maybe a wooden toy made by their father.
There are also some display rooms, which give an impression of what it was like in a Victoria home. The thing that is so impressive about the shops and these rooms
is the amount of detail, which you can literally spend hours soaking up.
