Somerset holiday cottageTwo bedroom Somerset holiday cottage

Nestling in a sheltered and peaceful valley beside a tree lined mill pond, this delightful cottage stands in six acres of superbly landscaped grounds. Perfectly placed for a quiet, restful holiday, it makes an equally ideal touring base with all of lovely Somerset, and much of nearby Dorset, easily accessible.  Situated next to an original water mill, dating back to 1782 and now lovingly restored to its former glory, the cottage is built from natural hamstone and furnished and equipped to very comfortable standard. The beautiful grounds, including marsh gardens, meadows and a fine orchard, are a year-round delight.  A host of rare and interesting mature trees, shrubs and plants are interlaced by grass covered paths which weave through the gardens, leading to sleepy corners, ornamental ponds and a lovely gazebo. The pretty banks of the main mill pond are a haven for a variety of wildfowl.

The attractive little village of Norton sub Hamdon is just a 15 minute level stroll from the cottages. Here visitors will find a shop, a Post Office, and an excellent pub serving freshly prepared and reasonably priced food – as well as fine 'real ale'! There are several restaurants within 5 miles. Splendid walks can be enjoyed from the doorstep and there is an all-weather tennis court next door to the mill.

Lying at the foot of Ham Hill Country Park, one of Somerset's best known landmarks, the countryside around Little Norton Mill is rich in history and alive with natural beauty. There are several fascinating N.T. country houses within just 10 miles including Montacute, Tintinhull House, Lytes Carey and an abundance of spectacular gardens in the area – notably the classic gardens of East Lambrook Manor and Barrington Court.

Ham Hill Country Park itself is home to a variety of rare flowers such as the bee orchid and the autumn gentian. At the park's summit are the remains of an ancient hill fort from where visitors can enjoy stunning views across this wonderful county, and wander the many footpaths.

Yeovil, where there are two theatres, a sports centre and a dry ski slope, and Sutton Bingham Reservoir which offers sailing and fly fishing are both just 8 miles away. Coarse fishing is available within 12 miles, horse riding is offered at Brimsmore, 6 miles away, and there are two 18 hole golf courses within 10 miles. Cricket St Thomas Wildlife and Leisure Park, Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum and Wincanton Racecourse are all within 20 miles. Dorset's unspoilt countryside is nearby, with Sherborne's Castles (old and new), Lyme Regis' dramatic coastline and romantic Cobb, and West Bay's sandy beach all within 23 miles. Camelot Country and its associations with King Arthur, the wide open spaces of the Somerset levels – designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest – Glastonbury and the north Somerset coast are all within easy reach.
